Adobe« Photoshop« Album Starter Edition 1.0.50.0 Readme
========================================
This file contains last-minute product information, updates to the Adobe
Photoshop Album documentation, and troubleshooting tips.
- For further information, see the Getting Started guide, Online Help, or
the Adobe Photoshop Album Web site, http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/main.htm
Top key issues addressed in the 1.0.50.0 Starter Edition release:
- A number of installation and launching problems
- Photo size limitation on import (what used to be a 12 megapixel
limit now scales to the amount of RAM available)
- Importing photos from networked drives does not copy them onto the local drive
- Web photo gallery thumbnail quality improved
For technical support information please visit our support site at,
http://www.adobe.com/support/products/photoshopalbum.html
System Requirements
- Operating system: Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, or XP
- RAM: 128MB minimum; 256MB or more recommended
- Intel« Pentium« III, 4 class processor or equivalent
- Color monitor capable of displaying thousands of colors at a resolution of 800x600 or higher
- DirectX 8.1 or newer (installed automatically if not present)
- 250 MB available hard disk space (130 MB on boot drive if installing to another
drive)
- Internet Explorer 5.01 (with service pack 2), 5.5, or 6.0
- QuickTime 5.01 or newer (required only to use QuickTime movies, which
some cameras produce). If your system does not have QuickTime installed,
you can install it from www.apple.com/quicktime/download.
- Ensure that your graphic card drivers are the current version.
Running Adobe Photoshop Album Over a Network
- Adobe Photoshop Album is not designed to be run when Windows is multi-
launched over a network.
- You can access photos from network drives if they are mapped to a drive
letter, but Adobe Photoshop Album cannot store any of its working files
on network drives.
Camera Issues
- Avoid TWAIN drivers for cameras. Use WIA drivers or mount as a mass
storage device whenever possible.
- If your camera is not recognized by Photoshop Album, remove the memory
card from the camera and insert it into a flash drive, or get photos from
the camera by using the vendor-provided software to copy them to the hard
disk, and then import them into Photoshop Album from the disk.
- Do not write-protect Memory Sticks before importing the photos into
Photoshop Album.
ODBC Error
If you get an ODBC error dialog on startup, it may mean that some components or its
registries of the Microsoft Data Access Component may have been improperly altered
or removed by some other program on their system. Please run the FixAccessOdbcReg utility
that can be found on the Photoshop Album CD to fix the problem. Be sure to read the
FixAccessOdbcReg readme located in the same folder.
PDF Creation Issues
- Acrobat 4.0 and earlier are not compatible with creations made with
certain Photoshop Album templates.
- If you send a PDF file created with Photoshop Album to a Macintosh OS X
user, they should not double-click on the file (which will launch AppleÆs
viewer) but should launch the Adobe Acrobat Reader and open the PDF from
there.
- When selecting background music files for slideshows, use MP3 files
whenever possible. WAV files larger than 2 MB may not play correctly.
Movie Clip Issues
- If you have any trouble playing movies (picture, sound or both), you may
have some corrupted DirectX files. You can install DirectX 8.1 from the
Photoshop Album CD by double-clicking on the dxsetup.exe file in the DirectX folder,
Common>DirectX 8.1 folder or download and install DirectX 9 from the Microsoft site,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en
Email Client Issues
- Photoshop Album can create email messages with AOL, Eudora, Hotmail,
Outlook, and Outlook Express. If you use a different email client or
service, select ôOtherö in Photoshop AlbumÆs email preferences and the
attachment will be written to disk.
- If using AOL, you must have AOL set as your default client for it to work
properly with Photoshop Album. Open AOL, choose Preferences under the
Settings menu, and click the Associations item to make AOL your preferred
email client.
- If using Hotmail, problems may occur if you attempt to attach multiple
individual photos. Use the PDF option to combine all the photos into one
PDF file.
- When using Hotmail to send an attachment for the first time, you will be
prompted to download and install the Hotmail Attachments Control. You
must say Yes to this.
- Hotmail and other email clients may limit the total size of your attachments.
This is specific to them, and you must choose file size settings in the
email dialog to conform to your email client.
Rotation Issues
- Photoshop Album will sometimes create an edited copy of a photo while
rotating, even if it could have been rotated without any degradation
(losslessly). To correct this, revert the photo to original, then rotate again.
Fast User Switching Issues
- When switching between multiple users accessing the same catalog, do not
switch users when in the process of entering text (such as for a caption
or note), or the text entry will be lost. Click out of the text field
before switching users.
- Exit the creation wizard before switching users, or changes in process
may be lost.
Operating System Upgrades
- If you upgrade your operating system, links to photos in Photoshop Album
may be broken. To avoid this, perform a full Photoshop Album backup
(select File > Backup) before upgrading the operating system, and then
restore (File > Restore) after completing the upgrade.
- If upgrading from Windows 98SE or Me to Windows 2000 or XP, you must
reinstall Photoshop Album after upgrading or CD and DVD writing functions
will not operate.
CD and DVD Issues
- With some CD-RW drives and some CD-RW discs, Photoshop Album may be
unable to overwrite the disc if it already has information on it. Use a
blank CD-RW disc, or a CD-R disc.
Printing
- If the default printer is changed in Windows while Photoshop Album is
running, Photoshop Album may not detect the change until it is closed and
restarted.
- To produce printed output on disk, use the Creation Wizard and click on
the "Save as PDF" button in page 5 of the wizard. The "Print to File"
option is not available in the print dialog.
3D Photo Gallery Issues
- Viewing the Adobe Atmosphere 3D photo gallery content requires Internet
Explorer version 5.01 or greater. 3D photo galleries cannot be viewed
using Netscape.
Undocumented Feature: Regenerate All Thumbnails
- You can force a complete regeneration of all thumbnails by right-clicking
on any photo, then holding down the control key while you select "Update
Thumbnail" from the context menu. Note that this can take a long time to
complete with a large catalog and program performance will be slow during
regeneration.
